Over the past few weeks, a number of the 10X Fitness team members have participated in both the Tough Mudder and City to Sea Marathon. These two events tested everyone both physically and mentally; requiring the guys to put in extra training in order to prepare themselves for the challenges that lay ahead…..

Tough Mudder

Widely known as the ‘world’s best obstacle and mud run’, the Tough Mudder involved us running across 10 miles of challenging terrain with 25 obstacles thrown in for good measure!  We hopped over high walls, scaled the heights of ‘Everest’ and ‘mudderhorn’, crawled and swam through ‘mud mile’, braved the freezing cold water of ‘arctic enema’; all whilst attempting to avoid being electrocuted on ‘electroshock therapy’! Teamwork and bravery were the key attributes needed to successfully complete the course and as much as this event taxed the team in a number of different ways we know everybody had plenty of fun taking part.

The 10X team finished the event mud splattered, weary, battered and bruised but ultimately feeling a huge sense of relief and satisfaction to finish the race and collect the famous Tough Mudder headband (and a bottle of beer!) at the finish line.

City to Sea

On the 7th September we embarked on the City to Sea Marathon; a demanding 26.60 mile race from Exeter Riverside to Babbacombe Downs in Torquay. The route contained riverside paths, country lanes, woodlands, stunning cliff tops, beaches, harbours and much more. What better way to spend a Saturday in South Devon!

We decided that in order to focus our efforts on finishing the course as a team we would walk the race as opposed to running it. We were under no illusion however that walking this distance would still require a gigantic effort from everyone; particularly with the final 6 ½  miles of the course (from Shaldon to Babbacombe) offering up 1800ft of ascent in a series of relentless climbs.

If you were to speak to any of the 10X team we’re certain they will tell you how tough this race really was. We also know that despite the blisters, aching bodies and general exhaustion they’ll also tell you that the incredible feeling they got when crossing the finish line meant it was totally worth it (the free fish and chips may have also had a little something to do with it as well!). On the day it required mental toughness and a real togetherness to complete the marathon distance as a team so well done to everyone who took part.

A Word From Us

We were hugely impressed with everyone’s application, determination and support of each other when successfully completing these events. Fears were faced, physical challenges were overcome and seemingly unattainable goals were reached. Awesome effort team!

We organised the involvement in these two events so as to provide a challenge and focus to our members; more importantly, however, it gave us the opportunity to help raise money for two extremely worthwhile causes. For the Tough Mudder event we raised £700 on behalf of the Cystic Fybrosis trust and for the City to Sea we raised just over £1100 on behalf of the Torbay Holiday Helpers Network. Here at 10X, we believe it’s vitally important to support local charities as well as ones that personally affect anyone associated with us; so a big thank you to everyone that supported us by kindly donating your hard-earned money to two fantastic charities.

We will continue to participate in exciting events moving forwards so get your thinking caps on and let us know if there are any events you think the team will enjoy taking part in next year!
